i was in the air force from 1981 to 1987, and if any career is overhyped, its being a pilot. I was a jet mechanic for 5 years. Flying a bucket of bolts that is worth 15 million dollars just to bomb innocent woman and children is the most horrible fucking thing that man ever created. I pray for the death of the person who ever invented the fighter bomber aircraft. i lost 30% of my hearing also from it. Tom Cruise couldnt fly his way out of whore house!
: Being a child of the eighties, and having the cherished childhood ambition of being a pilot, one of my favourite movies of all time is Topgun. The aerial stunts, the rendition of "You've Lost That Loving Feeling", the tragic death of Goose...it's entertaining.
: However, watching it today for the first time in a while I suddenly realise how amazingly camp it is. I mean aside from the unecessary number of shower scenes with Val Kilmer and Tom Cruise eyeing eachother up with just towels around their wastes, there is some hilarious jargon. Actual lines from the film include:
: "I'd like to bust your butt!"
: "Maverick! Goose! Get your butts out of that flight gear!"
: "I want some butts!"
: "This gives me a hard-on" (no ladies present in this scene)
:
: Of course, I still love the movie, but I will view it with slightly more amusement from now on, and it makes Maverick and Iceman's supposedly macho rivalry seem even more unlikely.
