HATE - their "sequels", which are little but tepid rehashes (by the way, JB2 will be out in theaters) designed to move more merchandise. I don't blame them, they're a business and all, but I don't like the way they're tainting the memories - and DVD collections - with subpar continuations. While the originals will always be there and be as good as ever, if there is no need or good reason for a sequel, DON'T MAKE ONE. This should be a law.
HATE - their treatment of foreign films. Few Disney-released foreign films, especially Hong Kong films, can escape the evil touch of further editing and/or new soundtrack redubbing. Most Disney-released Honk Kong films are incoherent, bastardized versions of great films, and are sadly unwatchable. Award-winning european films are often redubbed or needlessly edited to make it more "accessible".
HATE - Miramax's switch from the promised land of indie filmmaking to Disney Lite. Miramax's logo at the start of a film used to be a highlight for me; I knew I was in for something new, fresh, groundbreaking, brilliant. Now, they're just another studio, releasing some brilliant films and some terrible ones.
HATE - Their trailers at the start of DVDs. "Press MENU to skip trailers"... you're damn right I will.
LOVE - Almost all other aspects of their DVD treatments. They know what makes a good DVD and almost always come through with a good one when possible. I love the Vista Series - they're like a more commercial Criterion.
LOVE - the great films Disney helped put forward. I have to thank Disney for a lot of great films. I by no means loathe the company - I just wish a lot of its practices weren't so.
