some cameras offer a larger digital zoom, but lower megapixels...definetely go with the higher megapixel, lower digital zoom. basically, optical is a "regular zoom", as if you were using any camera, and "digital" is when the camera "enhances" the picture to get a closer view...but that zoom is never as clear as optical...I barely ever use that feature...

: : : : I would recommend 3 or above. At 3 Megapixels you can have a 11"x14" with the same resolution as a normal camera. You can buy a 3 Megapixel for around $200 easy. Depending on what you want to do, they have 4 & 5 Megapixels in the $500-$700 range. Also be sure you have a Opitcal Zoom rather than a Digital Zoom.
: : : - I have been unable to find a 3 megapixel for under $299. If you know of any, send me the link. My wife knowing absolutely nothing digital cameras bought this camera for me that is linked below. I figured before I open the box I should do some research and really know if this is what I want. I like everything about it expect for what everyone is saying - if I want to blow the images up, then this is no good.
: : and Wal-Mart sold a 3.2 Kodak on Black Friday for $159. Don't know if that helps. Try finding reviews on dpreview.com. They usually have the best ones.
