I blame the writers. Who else can you blame?

The Jinx character was so awful, I can't imagine that they want to spin her off. It seemed she might have any complexity (1st scene in Cuban office), but they quickly dispelled that. What more, Barry's performance was lack luster. Speaking for my Muslim friend, Hollywood probably gave her the Oscar for prostituting herself in Monster's Ball.

Pierce Brosnan seemed to act from behind dead eyes. By comparison, the trailer for his upcoming film Evelyn rings with honesty and passion. Possibly it was just the Peter Gabriel ST. But after all the time Brosnan spent saddled to the Remington Steele contract longing for the Bond role, I have to wonder if he hasn't gotten a little tired of the whole spy thing--then again, it could just be the terrible writing. Or directing. Or editing.

It scares me how important good editing is. I go into the theater every time now thinking--do I see this on television already? Does it have that feel? And I can't help but think the job of the editor has a lot to do with that.

Anyway, I took my ass out to see The Truth About Charlie after Die Another Day. While the idea of Tim Robbins being a grizzled veteran was hard to swallow (especially given his politics), Thandie Newton was excellent. Good crime noir fairy tale sort of stuff--no wonder it was a box office bomb. I'd love to see Kevin Smith direct Newton. That would be a trip.
