: Your right, 5 % of women are in senate. Compared to the 0 % of women who were in the senate 50 years ago. The same 0% who'd be ridiculed if they suggested such in 1952.
: We HAVE come a long way. You can't expect to make progress at the drop of the hat.
50 years isn't exactly a hat dropping, dude.
:What I'm saying is, as we've made progress, we've given women
:the "oppertunity" to rise above, which is wrong.
To rise above what? To rise above a respectable level of concessions to make them feel more important but not equal?
Sexual Harassment in the workplace is a hard issue. I don't believe that jokes should constitute harassment. Humor, if anything, should be covered under the 1st Amendment. If these Ultra-Religious Assholes are free to hold up God Hates Fags signs on the main drag of my city, than I should be able to say, "How many feminists does it take to screw in a lightbulb? Two. One to screw in the lightbulb and the other to suck my dick."
What makes Sexual Harassment in the workplace a viable issue is the fact that these jokes and 'free speeches' are being made on a time clock. Like Dylan said, "You've gotta serve someone." Just because your speech is free doesn't mean your time is. You owe something to your employer. You cannot leave your employer. The offended party is stuck in a hostile environment and confined there by the necessary need for monetary support.
Minorities and Women have come a long way in the past century. Many groups over the past century have stopped being considered minorities. Soon, some minorities will be majorities. Other majorities will vanish as interbreeding creates a group of neither minority nor majority. This group will be called people.
The fact is you cannot go by statistics. The glass ceiling, the dollar amount of an hourly wage, especially in a failing economy, is simply a set of ludicrous numbers manipulated to serve the purpose of whoever is stating them. Statistics are meaningless as they are never solely objective.

Why are all the bouncers at my nightclub male and yet all the cocktail servers are female? I make an hourly wage, they make $3.00 an hour plus tips. Now before tips they make as much as I do in 2.5 hours for working an eight hour shift. But after tips, which I do not receive, they can make any where from 2-4 times what I make for my 8 hour shift.
This isn't unfair to me because my wage is constant, there's is erratic. Just take that one situation into consideration when trying to do 'hard' numbers on wages between men and women. From one point of view I make 3.3 times as much as they do, but through the glass darkly they make 4 times as much as my 330% of their original wage.
