Script writing format

Isis' post about people's screenplays made me realize something: I have no idea what the typical accepted format for a script is. Obviously there's going to be a method most people use to lay them out, but I have no idea what it looks like.

Gabe, you mentioned a program. Where can I find such a program/is it worthwhile?
