Yeah, the overscanning will likely result in you seeing the 1.85:1 height of the image anyway. It's extremely minor, I think it works out to something like 8 extra scanning lines.

Or better yet- "tilt-and-scanned" versions of older 1.37:1 films, with the tops and bottoms matted off to make them "widescreen" and the image being tilted up and down to accomadate the cropping!
