There are backstories behind each.

They make contributions along the way. In the movies, other characters are given credit for them.

It was meant to come across like a Goddess of Water. Water is her element. It ties into the ring she wears.

It is better explained by being able to let go of the One Ring. Something that powerful can be an awful temptation. If people like Boromir will lose their mind over it, who would be next? Aragorn? Legolas? Gimli?
