Wedge is an offensive character. A little further on you'll see that he has a lot of pent up anger due to his nudist parents naming him after a Star Wars character (and, well them being nudists in general). Of course the entire story changes at the end of act 2 to a very depressing psycho-drama.
And about Preacher--it's the adaptation of the comic by the same name. Kevin has been rumored as being tapped to direct it, but it's unreliable rumor at best. You can find more about it at IMDB.com.
