While I don't intend to shoot my feature length film for at least four more years and there is plenty of time to learn, I think I better get some questions answered now. It's become quite apparent that shooting like this, all professional and shit is far much more sophisticated and complicated than it is to shoot five-minute shorts on a digital camera. So without further ado, please excuse my ignorance and please answer my questions.

What is the cost difference in renting a camera that's 16mm or 35mm?

What is the best color film I can use that doesn't cost and arm and a leg?

About how much film would one deem necessary for a movie which should run under 2 hours?

What editing tool should I use if I wish to do it digitally?

What other things would I need to upload the footage to the editing tool?

What are time codes?

What should I know about aspect ratios if I want to film it in a widescreen (1.85:1) ratio?

The locations I will shoot on are remote and I will be able to shoot at, free of charge. The shots should be simple, so will this affect any of the following?

Do I need to hire a camera operator?

Do I need to hire a DP?

Do I need a grip?

Do I need any other crew?

What other costs should I worry about?

Anything else I should know?

After everything is edited and the film is ready to go, what should I do afterwards? Such as preparing it for theatres, film festivals, etc.

Thanks.

jH
