Mister Kev, nice to see you plundering the wallets of the enamored on your web site. America rocks. Serious question, I just finished viewing An Evening with Kevin Smith. Great video. Your anecdotes are great, my wife giggled like a school girl. Or maybe that was me. Question is, I am a Novelist (My real name is John Grisham - Snoogins) and am working through an adventure story. The key in writing is to leave each chapter, each section, with the reader feeling they need to know more. Common cliffhanging.
My question is, what is the tempo for cliffhanging in flim writing? Is there a set number of pages you work, and say like, "I need a C--ksmoker joke here," or, "I need to reveal more of the story here." Or, do you just "feel it?"
I am a long-time fan. Once upon a time I sent you my laserdiscs to sign back in 1993 or 94. You did so, and I still have them hanging in my office. You kept the Sharpie I sent you (bastard). Jack from New Brunswick, Starvin like Garvin (Clerks poster). Thanks Kevin, you're a huge inspiration to me. I can't wait for Jersey Girl - after all, I married one.
