the moons gravity helps keep earths axis at a 23 1/2 degree tilt...if the moon werent there, the earths axis would severely wobble and cause massive climate changes on a daily basis! The last time the earths axis shifted, it shifted by only a half of a degree, and turned northern africa into a desert. On a side note: the moon is moving away from us at approximately an inch a year, it will be lost eventually! I watch way too much "bill nye"!
