I am a 3rd year M. Div student at Union Theological Seminary in NYC. (just featured in the NY Times because we are going bankrupt, fun times!) I just saw An Evening with Kevin Smith and so now I have a few questions of my own, if you don't mind answering them.
1. What are some of your reference materials used for background info in the movie Dogma? As a theologian and a fan of the movie I would like to know where you got some, of your info. Elizabeth Castelli at Barnard/ Columbia had some very good things to say about Dogma and I am a fan of hers.
2. How does it feel knowing that your movies helped launch careers of some todays leading box office men? You always reference Affleck to Phantoms, but I like to think of him as basketball player in Buffy the movie.
3. Lastly, I was reading Robert Pirsig's Lila during the time I saw Dogma, with my Presbyterian Minister Father (he liked it too)and you talk about the duckbill platypus. Pirsig, along with many christian folk, use the playpus as a proof of God's existence, because it is a messed up mammal. I was wondering if the use of that particular animal came from anywhere or you like the rest of the world just think the platypus is a messed up mammal?
