Hmm, I dunno, maybe. But, my favorite band, Third Eye Blind, have said many times that Lou Reed/VU are big influences. They covered "Heroin" on their 1994 demo, and their b-side "Horror Show" is sorta a take off of Heroin with new lyrics complete with Lou Reed references. They also covered Sweet Jane on tour this past summer before they played their poppy radio hit "Never Let You Go", whose riff is very similar to Jane's.
3eb's lead singer has described their new record, which looks like it will *finally* come out in either March/April, as "exploring our continuing fascination with Lou Reed and club rythms."
Oh, and my favorite VU song is Sweet Jane.
