I guarantee their peer group will offer a much more warped perspective on these issues. Even to the point where things could be going on behind your back. Working things through with your kids could save a lot of time, not to mention preventing "odd incidents" from happening. Who knows? They might find you cool and add a mature perspective when facing the issues in real life.
