Rap, for me, died when they pushed it. Every song sounds the same. What really screwed it up was when Puff Daddy did that song for Godzilla. I mean, none of my friends knew the title of the background song or the artist who originally did it. (Kashmir- Led Zeppelin.)
Rap in the 80's and early 90's wasn't bad. Fat Boys, Run DMC, and the like weren't bad at all. But when they started this East Coast/West Coast, Fuck dis, fuck dat, fuck all you __insert racial slur here__... That just totally fucked it up.
Although, as much as it annoys me, some of this shit can really piss off the neighbors (and the police that hang out at our proms, the Snow Ball [heh], etc..)...
