John Hughes' films colored my generation. Sixteen Candles and The Breakfast Club are brilliant, and still hold up remarkably well.

As for Linklater, the only film of his I'm actually familiar with is Dazed And Confused, but I think this is one of the most underrated films of the last decade. I own the DVD, and I absolutely love it. I think he showed the teen genre, so popular in the 80s, as funny and as honest as anybody has since John Hughes with this film. It's really the "Fast Times" of the 90s, in many respects, including the satisfying careers that most of the stars of "Dazed" have gone on to enjoy.
