Video camera question: What's the best low end $

I'm creating a website for a discount merchandise company and in return they are going to give me a video camera capable of shooting film quality productions (my choice). I've done some research about cameras in the $2k range and have narrowed it down to a few, but I also know there's nothing accounting for personal reviews. Is there a certain camera out there that you have had a good experience with? And that I should steer clear of?
