: I get the impression you're heading out west. What are your plans? Any leads? Jobs? Anything? I've considered moving to LA many times, but I have a hard time going without anything there waiting for me.

: I need advice, smallsy, and I'm thinking your plans might guide me.

I was just out there for a week and... I discovered it's a lot less expensive than I thought, definitely a lot less than Manhattan, if still pricey.

I'm lucky in that, I have a good handful of friends from college that have been toiling out there for a while... and so they can help me get my foot in the door a little bit.

My plan goes a little something like this:

I grab a shit job Upstate as a receptionist or something for the next coupla months... and then when late April comes around, my girlfriend's gonna grab a transfer within the craftstore chain she works for (happy, they fucking love her floral designs) and plunk ourselves down in a little apartment in one of the less expensive parts of LA.

I use the experience to try and get into one of those temp agencies where you're temping out to entertainment companies... and just try to meet people while I'm eking out my living with my lady. Hopefully, I got a few friends that are moving out there soon, maybe we'll find roommates.

Write as many specs as I can up here working shit in Upstate (Home Movies down, Smallville next...) so that if and when (a) I make some new contacts or (b) my friends out there rise up the ladder enough to help me.

Maybe grab a guitarist and do some comedy music in clubs... or do some poetry readings out there (I have some friends...) for spare cash on the side.

And then plug along until I stumble into something.

It's... not much of a plan. Heh. But I've got a coupla grand coming to me from old childhood bonds maturing... and my lady does because her tax return is gonna be huge as-per how much you get for donating a Volvo to charity.

So... why sit in Utica and fritter those tiny windfalls away when we could blow them moving, right?

Mike
