My guess (and it's just a total guess) is that Smalls was invited based on how long he's been around these here parts. Sort of Kevin's way of doing something nice for such a long-time and dedicated fan.
I don't think anyone missed an announcement of a screening or anything like that, and I wouldn't take it personally at all.
