The respect is still there as always, but it has less to do with morals than it used to. It is great that people still wait until they get married, but I don't think it should be a moral decision. If you are not ready to have sex, don't, but don't tell others they are going to hell because they do.
Now I know you didn't say that, but I am sure you agree that you know of people who talk like that. If you do it for your own reasons, great, if you do it because you feel obligated to, also great, just as long as you don't push it on others.
