: When a film is loosely based of a book (such as 10 Things I Hate About You is based off of Taming of the Shrew and O Brother Where Out Thou is Odyssey) do you have to receive any rights to publish your work?

: Thanks

Rule of thumb, your screenplay is an adapted work, if the original text is over 75 years your fine, if it's with that time period you must get license from the copyright holder. You've nothing to worry about the copyrighting of your work I believe form PA, the copyright form, has an adaptation box or text box. I'm not sure, my lawyer files mine.
