She was saying things to him (not even to friends, to him) like "If I didn't have a boyfriend, I'd really want to go out with you."
A girl who's saying that is doing one of two things:
1) leading the guy on
2) desperately seeking his attention in order to give herself a reason to get out of a dead relationship
Now he's not being led on anymore, I don't see anything wrong with that. (And, I might add, since she was showing *no* consideration for him, why should he bother to worry about if what he did might have hurt her feelings?)
