1. They felt like they had to get to the ending sooner and that the bar scene took too long, although everyone really liked the speech. I don't remember why they thought this, but I believe it was based on a quote or a book or something someone told them. It might have just been said to them by a test audience.
2. I am not really sure, but I believe it was written right around clerks, whether before, after, or during. I can't answer the rest.
