I've always found that with Kubrick films I can make a decision on a single viewing, I loved Clockwork Orange (despite the almost criminal decision to cut the book's final chapter from the film) and The Shining on the first viewing but Apocalypse now and EWS just bored me from the offset (call me a heretic if you wish!)
