Peter Jackson (just saw Bad Taste, though I'm impressed with LOTR)
Sam Raimi (I have to say that the Gift surprised me enough to warrant this)
Spielberg (because he gave us Jaws and some subconscious desire to wear fedoras)
I make no effort to judge the best, mostly because I don't feel like I've gotten enough experience either watching movies or making them... I just know what I like (and most of the time why).
