: ...here's a meaty one!

:
: 1) What scene, in a Kevin Smith film, is the one where you first thought "This man (Kevin) is a god-damned genius!"?

The first Smith film I saw was Clerks, and when the whole "You sucked 37 dicks?" scene between Dante and Veronica hit me, I knew I was watching something really good! I rented Clerks about four more times after that before asking myself "What other films has this Kevin Smith guy made?" I then rented Mallrats, and saw Chasing Amy in the movie theater months later, and I've been a rabid fan of Kevin's ever since.

: 2) As a child, what was/were your favorite movie(s)? - Tough. These are the most memorable. When I was nine years old, I saw Star Wars and needless to say, that was a mind blower. I remember seeing Foul Play shortly after my eleventh birthday: that was my introduction to the humor of an SNL alum and I thought Chevy Chase was awesome, and I had a crush on Goldie Hawn for years after that. But, when I was thirteen, my mother took me to see my first Rated R movies. A double feature of The Blues Brothers & Cheech & Chong's Next Movie. In particular, I still hold a very, very special place in my heart for The Blues Brothers, and I still miss John Belushi to this day.

: 3) God (or something) gives you the power to do one thing that you think will most benefit mankind. What is it? - I am a kind person who cares about others. I used to get angry at others who were always looking after only themselves and never gave a rat's ass about others, but now I feel sorry for them. The accomplishments of my life will be judged by how kindly I treated others, not how I horded everything for myself at others costs.

: 4) Greatest movie from the following decades:
: 1900's- 60's
: 1910's- 70's
: 20's- 80's-
: 30's- 90's
: 40's- 2000's-
: 50's-

1900s - "Le Voyage Dans La Lune". Rent "From The Earth To The Moon" sometime and watch the twelth and final episode. It goes into detail about this amazing breakthrough of a silent film by a frenchman whose name now escapes me, and never saw a penny from the distribution, as Thomas Edison bribed a London exhibitor and stole it from him and made many copies. It came out approximately 1904.

1910s - I can't think of one film from this decade, but I'm sure I'd go with a Chaplain flick on this one.

1920s - Chaplain again. "Gold Rush" might well have been his best flick of this era. Brilliant slapstick the likes of which we'll never see again.

1930s - This is the toughest decade. Too many good films to mention. I suppose I'll go with "Citizen Kane", ever so slightly over "Gone With The Wind".

1940s - Let's go with "It's A Wonderful Life".

1950s - Tough. "Roman Holiday" gave everybody a crush on Audrey Hepburn. I'll go with a more obscure flick: "The Girl Can't Help It". A revolutionary film in that it had great rock 'n roll, from Little Richard, amongst others, and it had sexpot Jane Mansfield.

1960s - To me the quintessential 60s film is "Easy Rider". That capped off the turmoil of that generation beautifully.

1970s - Movies really changed now. I think "Star Wars" changed movie making more than any other.

1980s - So many genres now. I prefer the irreverant comedies of this era, and "Fast Times At Ridgemont High" started it all. Might not be the most powerful, intellectual film of all time, but it holds such a dear place in my generation's collective heart.

1990s - Beats the hell out of me! Filmmaking has gotten too good now! I can't say that about 90s music, but I can about 90s films. Excellent! My two favorites came out in the same year: 1994. "Forrest Gump" and "Pulp Fiction". Brilliant films in different ways.

2000s - No clue. Let's wait until the decade is over.

: 5) Most important time period in the history of film:

The 1930s, definitely. Movies became magical after the silent era.

: 6) IS the pen mightier the semi-automatic M-16 rifle?

It's pretty hard to kill a bunch of people with a pen.

: 7) Song of the day:

"Atom Heart Mother" by Pink Floyd. Listen to this 23:39 suite without going nuts!

: 8) Your hero MUST have the following quality: - Must prefer bleeding for his art over selling out.

: 9) Humor me: No. I don't like telling "jokes".

: 10) Is the ‘best of the worst’ the same as the ‘worst of the best’? - The "best of the worst" sounds worse than the "worst of the best".

: *Bonus Extra Credit Question*

: It’s a two parter:

: Rank the The Beatles in order of Favorite to Least Favorite:

1. John
2. Paul
3. George
4. Ringo
