It's a movie that either clicks or doesn't. And I'm a firm subscriber that you have to watch it atleast twice for the intended effect.

There were a few people that had a supernatural knowledge of the tangent universe. Probably not on a conscious level, but on a subconscious level they knew that the world they were in wasn't right. Ms. Pomeroy (Barrymore's character) and the other girl were two of these people. Donnie and the girl especially shared a strong connection.
