I don't think the guy was every that mentally sound, he just had better people covering up for him back in the day. I feel pity for the guy though, I mean, clearly he needs psychiatric help, but I think whomever his handlers were were more concerned with keeping him as a money making product rather than considering what might be best for him, not to mention those poor kids.
I don't think he should have sole custody of those children though...they don't have a shot in hell of growing up like normal kids unless someone steps in.
