: It is so hip, new and original while at the same time borrowing from so much. Tarantino may be the only person whose dialogue I enjoy more than Kevins. Every viewing reveals something new. One of those films (of many) in my collection that I don't watch enough.
Ditto.
I know that this person hasn't done much for his credibility lately, but I remmeber a time when Jon Favreau had one of the freshest voices around. In Swingers, it felt like his characters sang their lines everything was so fluid. Conversations in that movie were like watching the sea. My favorite aspect of his writing was that it was florid and pretty without being incredibly self-aware. This was the character's language all the way down.
Thats what seperate word-smiths like Kevin and Quentin Taratino from Kevin Williamsom or David E. Kelly or the WestWing guy; those guys have characters that spout, that know they are being cute or hip or wordy. It detracts something from the work when the characters are performing for you and not interacting honestly with one another. Its a fine line to walk and thus astounding to me that writers like Kevin and Quentin can make it feel as natural as breathing.
Pulp Fiction made me pay attention to filmmaking. (along with Goodfellas, etc). It's always going to have a special place in my DVD cabinet. :)
