...I do think your story is a sad one, but probably not for the reasons you'd expect.
First of all I am sorry to hear that you've had to spend alot of time in hospital. I know from personal experience that this is stressful and 9 times out of 10, unpleasant. I'm not really sure why you posted this story though?
Ok, well the reason I think its sad is because you seem to me to be a poor judge of charecter and of situations. I think its sad you've spent so much time and effort on someone who didn't feel the same way. The girl you've written about doesn't seem very wonderful to me if shes the kind of person to treat others with less respect if their not part of the right crowd (this seems to be a "thing" in the US, this school "class" system). The thing is you seem to of concentrated too much on this relationship you had when you were kids and when she moved on (and people do often change friends as they grow up, I can't single her out for that) you - I'm guessing - maybe had difficulty making new friends which is why you hung on to this relationship and have in your memory turned it into this perfect thing - which it wasn't as you now know from the way things have turned out.
My advice to you is start afresh. Get involved in some hobbies that get you out and about meeting other like-minded people, and don't force friendships, if you relax a bit and try not to be so intense I'm sure you'll reap the rewards of more satisfying friendships.
I hope you're not offended by my being so blunt, but I didn't think you'd mind as you wrote so openly yourself - no offense intended anyway!
