: I respected his ability as an actor to put himself in that mindframe. He played a role that I think very few actors could pull off. He pulled it off not one, twice but many many times. He grew as an actor with each movie.

Jay was basically playing himself in these movies -- that's why no other actor could pull it off, because it's him. Everyone laughed at his shtick, even the people very close to him, for YEARS -- until they figured out it was all too real.

It IS kind of odd to see people be so shocked and appalled to find this out, and be so upset about it. It's sort of like, "oh my goodness??? Mike Tyson is VIOLENT???" Well yeah -- that's what he does for a living.

Once someone is really a hardcore addict, it doesn't matter who he meets -- he has to take some kind of interest in his own life. Hell, his family and friends don't influence him anymore; why would meeting a stranger who probably is just thrilled (like the guy above) to see Jay acting like Jay does in the movies, help him any?

He's been CELEBRATED for being a fuck-up for most of his adult life, and people are still doing it. It's a very sad position to be in.
