Unless you bought a Mac, your computer is still under service warrenty and I would say that this is a defect. You should look into sending it in for service. This is a good reason why you should always buy extended coverage for three years because this can happen all too much and it isn't really your fault.

But another thing I have to ask is if you have been getting your screen near a magnetic field (like perhaps speakers). It could be a screen distorsion (sp) caused by the magnetic field.

But my best guess would be the cable, and the best fix would be getting it sent into service it before your one year is up and you have to pay for it.
