I didn't even see this at first, but after watching the DVD right after the Chasing Amy one yesterday, it struck me that Silent Bob is so much dumber in the last flick than in all the previous four. I mean, waaay stupider and more slapsticky.
In each of the movies he turns out to be fairly smart:
1)"Clerks" - he gives valuable advice to Dante and kinda turns the movie around
2)"Mallrats" - well, he's a technical genius
3)"Chasing Amy" - he's almost Zen-like, gives Affleck his life story, & general advice about life etc, turns it all around even more than in Clerks
4)"Dogma" - he comes up w/ the idea of spraying the Golgothan + even Bartleby and Loki are scared shitless of him (the train scene)
But the scene with Holden in J& SB SB was painful to watch because he talks them down all the time and patronizes them(fictional characters. am I getting through to you at all?). This coming from a guy who two movies ago came to them, desperately seeking some moral support.
Also, since Silent Bob is raised Catholic (we find this out in Amy), he would have known what Carrie Fisher meant when she said she lived by the book and stopped Jay from going down on her! Right?
Anyway sorry this is too long. Chime in, if you'd like.
