I've been reading alot about entries into film festivals and I know Kevin won Cannes and Sundance so I was hoping either Kevin or anyone else in the know can further explain this to me. You send your film off to Cannes and then to no one else for 12 months? Am I getting this right? Cannes wants everyone who sends it to them to sit idle with their project for a year? And if this is your first film and you are doing this thing yourself, are you invited to attend the festival if your film is selected? I've been reading about the importance of playing politics at these events, meeting people, throwing parties, someone said I think Chris Gore, 'If you think that sending in your $40 and a video tape is going to make it happen think again (is this true for Cannes as well?) Also, how long before the event do you find out if your film is selected? I read somewhere that only members of the film industry are invited to Cannes. I would expect, that me making one film and sending it to Cannes doesn't count me in as being a member of the film industry. Anything anyone could provide would be really helpful here.
