Watching trains is a teenish past time in "Europeanish" areas. As a citizen of New England, U.S. (CT, Bradley International Airport, in High School), I spent a lot of time watching planes take off for exotic locals as a teenager. Sitting at the end of the runway, we would drink and imagine flying off to crazy places on the globe. I have been lucky enough to visit many places in South America. But I imagine that "trainspotting" is much the same as watching planes take off. A yearning for "far-off" locals.
