Sugar, fats, carbs, all of those things run the body. I'm sure you've heard the expression food is fuel for the body. So, you gain weight depending on what type and how much food is taken in, and how much energy your body needs to run itself during that time. Fat is stored energy, when you eat too much, you get fat. It's not just, I ate a half pound of ice cream, so I'll only gain half a pound. The sugar in that ice cream is quick energy (more of an instant energy you get from sugar, but about the same amount you might get from a couple of meals) The body prosseses it quicker, and the energy must be used in a hurry, or it will be converted into fat. The same amount of fat one might get from eating a couple of meals. I hope this helps.
