You're right considering that his 'movie flops' are the reason he's insecure. It has nothing to do with his family life.

Kevin Smith has yet to open a film with a number 1 box office take. Until that happens he'll (a) continue to respond defensively to articles from the National Enquirer and (b) watch helpless as big budgets gets handed to directors NOT him.
