Yep in the first Matrix movie, Morpheus references someone "who was able to manipulate the matrix as he saw fit" , that woke up 'the first of us' or something and said that he'd be reborn, as he's telling Neo that he is the 'reincarnation' for lack of a better term of that person.
Now we know that the Architect gave that 'Neo' was given the same choice Reeves got, and of course chose to let the Architect use him to help construct the new version of the Matrix rather than annihilation, and in return he was allowed to choose a group of people to build the new Zion around.
At least that's what I think he was saying...
