I just wanted to post this fresh, i did respond to someone elses thread.

It is great Atkins is working for Kevin but i feel i must warn ya'll and give some advice:

1-Not all ppl need to limit carbs, Atkins may be more harmful than good for some ppl, because different things cause different ppl to gain food wise, Atkins works for those who do not metabolize carbs correctly. Some ppl need carbs for their daily energy and do metabolize them properly.
Different Programs work for different people.

2-Initial weightloss is common on almost any diet, Kevin has lost 15 pounds, BUT, in a month or two he may stop losing all together.

3- Any dieting should be done with an increase in movement and activity, some ppl can not just exercise for exercisings sake, i am like that, So just make a point of moving more. For me i started frequently shopping (window shopping especially), taking the trash out instead of letting hubby do it, etc, small stuf and that got me walking a great deal more.

4-it is very very important you do not start ANY kind of radical diet change without consulting a doctor and staying under regular supervision of one. There are alot of things that could go wrong when you radically change your diet, like the high fat content of all the protein in atkins.

5-Always take a multi-vitamin daily to meet any nutritional gaps the change in diet may leave.

6-If you are hungry, eat, allowing yourself to go hungry will send your system into starvation mode and you will not burn calories and fat.

7-The same goes for water, drink alot of water, otherwise the same thing will happen, if you are not properly hydrated your body will start reserving everything thinking there is a crisis in nutrition land!
Sodas and other caffineated drinks will only speed the dehydration in your body. they are ok in moderation.

I have been obese my entire life and been on various diets and programs both homegrown and official, the best results i had was when i was on Phentermine for six months when i lost 10 pounds and i did so eating pasta, breads, fat free sweets, replacing alot of meats with soy based products (soy tacos and soy spagehtti were awesome), boneless skinless chicken breast, ground turkey breast, turkey breast cutlets pork tenderloin, all leans meats, turkey breast is a wonderful almost fat free meat. Great for sandwiches, and for entrees. I also ate meals like lean cuisines and similar meals, and made a sald to go with them and was quite satisfied. ALWAYS use fat free or low fat dressing, Wishbone has its Just 2 good line which is pretty descent, salada are great because you can ad a whole bunch of various veggies and have n fat and like super low calories. I switched from regular dairy to all 2% dairy products, milk, cheese, cream cheese etc, fat free sour cream, and i eventually went to skim milk, BUT i do not drink milk so i would not reccommend it for drinking.
I ate yogurt almost daily, i hate yogrt, but yoplait puts out some very good flavors in fat free, lite, regular and the custard style. They have recently come out with a study showing that yogurt helps burn belly fat, i totally believe this, because i lost so much belly fat while eating yogurt daily.
Try organic foods, visit your healthfood store (try looking at www.wildoats.com see if you can find a store near you, this cain has excellent stuff), i found the most fabulous frozen pizzas and other entrees that were low in fat, caories and tasted fabulous. I also found alot of things that were organic versions of regular foods had decreased fat and calories.

I snacked i just tried to keep it low fat, i fell in love with Snackums fruit loops lol a fave snack
I ate alot of bananas, excellent for potassium that keeps your heart healthy.

I plan to go back on the phentermine soon.
I have no will power, if i am hungry i physically can not make good choices because i crave what i crave and nothitng else will satisfy my. Food is a weakness, but when the hunger factor was removed by Phentermine, making it like a low small hunger not ravenous, i was able to choose wisely.

I would love to have a non-invasive procedure called Lap-Band (do a search for it, there are several sites about this relatively new procedure), it works like that horrific gastric bypass, but has little to no side effects, is noninvasive and completely reversible. It is no more complicated than the modern gallbladder surgey (which i had last year and believe me its a peice of cake, lol)

OK, i will get down off my soap box, lol having had the food and weight battle my entire life (i am almost 33), i encourage anyone else with weight issues to go for it, but please do it in a healthy, educated and safe way.

Heather
