That and the systems two out of the four play.

The leauge expanded too much, too soon. There are not enough skilled players to fill all these teams, so now we get teams who trap non stop because they can't do anything else.

Over-expansion has hurt other sports, like baseball. What's different is that the watered down talent, specifically pitching, has made the sport more appealing to the masses. Crappy pitching = home runs. Hockey is getting killed because of it...the Devils don't even sell out playoff games.
