There really aren't that many parts in the movie. It's a perfect use of Lee; believe me, you'd be *more* disappointed if he were in, say, the Mike Starr role, or the Biggs role ... and he couldn't play Carlin, and obviously Affleck is himself. So he did an awesome cameo instead.
