I turn to the board for some help

I have to do a 7-10 page research paper on black culture/entertainers. I'm going to start with the menstural shows and work my way up to the present. Im a bit stuck on who to cover from about 1910-1940 or so. any good african american entertainers from that era that you know of? I'm currently have a brain fart and cant think of any. Heres who I plan to cover:

the menstural(god i hope im spelling that right) shows
Nat King Cole
sammy davis Jr.
Marvine gaye
Stevie Wonder
someone in disco
Halle berry/denzel washington
Jimmi Hendrix

and more I believe. Anyone else you think deserves to be mentioned? Like i said, its only 7-10 pages, so I can't write about all the great entertainers, but any reccomendations you can throw my way would be greatly appreciated. thanks
