You gave him your phone number and he didn't just write it down, he put it in his cell phone for safe-keeping. That's a good sign. Not only that, but you put the ball in his court for him to call you. Guys love it when they have the ball in their court, because to him (even though you were the first to give your phone number) it'll be as if he made the first move by calling you.
The least you would have had to do to seem aggressive (and the guy would really have to be insecure to see this as aggressive) is ask for his phone number, write it down, and then call him the very next morning and ask - and I quote - "When can I see you again?"
