: I think the US is infamous for overmedicating people. Our doctors like to prescribe
pain killers, anti-depressants, and relaxants for anyone and everyone. It's way to
easy to get drugs. Thats not even including all the self-medicating people do, with
non-prescritption drugs. At the supermarket, there is usually an entire aisle side
dedicated to all the drugs available. Then we have the antibacterial soap, the germ-
killing cleaning fluids, the anti-biotics which are soon going to make all our natural
defenses null and void, because of survival of the fittest. Of course, we need all
these things because of the preservatives, hormones, artificial flavors, chemical
additives, and other byproducts of processing that we eat every day. The
plysaccharides, the saturated, unsaturated, monunsaturated, polyunsaturated fats;
the MSG, sodium, and yellow #5 that rises to unnatrual levels in our bodies. We try
to counter these things with long, unpronouncable chemicals designed to shut
down receptors, or inhibit flow, or activate glands, or God knows what else, all
wrapped up into a grape flavoring that contains 32 graps of sugar per spoonful and
no grape juice whatsoever, with a little alcohol thrown in to make us drowsy and
prevent us from operating heavy machinery.

finding a bibliography on Google so I can doublecheck. But if you reccomend
something, I'll pick it up tomorrow or Tuesday. I'm about done with American Gods
anyhow.
