Hey gang,
This is my first post here... I love this board!
I've heard people gripe about Kevin's "Lack of visual style" and I actually think it's very fitting to the kind of movies he makes.
I mean come on, the best part of the movies are the great rants and heart-felt speeches. Kevin writes the kind of dialog that runs through our heads at 2 am on those lonley nights when we FINALLY figure out what we SHOULD have said. Even with Dogma and the other more humorous stuff.. it's the way people talk that strikes the chord in us and makes us nod in agreement - or regret.
I just think the camera swooping and diving all over the place would distract from all that. For the most part we talk to people standing still, sitting or maybe walking. MOST of us go through life seeing the world just like Kevin's camera work - fiarly static, with moves when something interesting happens.
But maybe I'm wrong. Next time I have a fight with my girlfriend, I'll do it on rollerblades bobbing my head up and down -it might be a more rewarding experience. At least it will have "visual style"
Onward,
Digital Dave
