: Ever notice people at work always put you in charge of what you're worst at or what you like doing the least? I can't stand that. What time are you out of there today?
4:30. 6 hours from now. Argh.
And yes. My first job out of college, I told them the same thing; they put me in charge of accounts receivable. That wasn't as bad as it could have been; it was all on the computer, all I had to do was call people who were delinquent and piss and moan at them. After that I had a job where I didn't have to worry about numbers or money at all; if the job itself hadn't been so fucking dull, that would have been ideal. Then I went to work for a financial consulting firm, that was just a REALLY good idea. Then I came here. Yay.
Now I'll go home to NJ, and hopefully get a job in Manhattan that makes more use of my writing and editing skills, and rather less of my piss-poor mathematical skills. I'm not even LOOKING at jobs that have bookkeeping in the description, and I'm going to make it CLEAR at EVERY interview that if the job involves bookkeeping, I don't want it. I've got enough experience under my belt that I can afford to be a little picky, and I know from that experience that if the job involves bookkeeping, I'm going to be miserable, I'm going to procrastinate, and in the end, no one's going to be happy.
