Had to post a quick message about Kevin's awesome Q&A. I don't know if I could name too many people who could endure over an hour and a half of questions like that while being funny and engaging for every second. What a great guy. Makes me even that much more of a huge fan.
I'm sure most of this has already been posted but some facts I didn't know before the Q&A.
-Jersey Girl has been pushed back to February due to Matrix 3 also opening on November 7.
-Affleck has been cursed by the now infamous line "you the bomb in Phantoms yo" line as he can't go anywhere without a fan yelling it at him.
-A company used Flash to put together a animated short of Jay and Silent Bob in a recreation of the light saber battle in Empire to win the Clerks: The Animated Movie job. Now all Kevin has to do is write the script.
-Walt Flannigan is not in Jersey Girl
-Fletch is the only thing remotely on Kevin's radar but Miramax still doesn't believe in Jason Lee.
-Kevin will get to visit Jason Mewes for the first time in quite awhile in a Jersey Rehab on Monday. In a sad story, apparently the Rehab Jason is in now is run very much like a Military academy. Jay had to cut his hair extremely short and has to wear a shirt, tie, and pants every day. The other Rehab members consider him a celebrity and thus treat him poorly. One elbowing Mewes at one point and calling him a "Rich Boy" which Kevin found humorous as Mewes is always the one to be borrowing money. This doesn't mean Kevin thought the situation itself was funny, but does think something like this is a good thing for Mewes right now.
-New Roadside attractions to be shot Tuesday and Wednesday in Jersey including a stop at the Stash.
-Wearing a large green Hulk hand will better ensure that you get picked to ask a question at one of Kevin’s Q&A
-New Clerks 10th Anniversary Edition DVD on track for a third quarter 2004 release
-New Mallrats DVD is not actually new, just a re-pricing. Thus no digital Jabba.
-Most disheartening to this fan, the next Vulgarthon location is up in the air. Kevin seems keen on moving the show to the west coast as they will get to play all the old favorites to fans on the west coast for the first time. There is nothing new, outside of Jersey Girl, to show on the East Coast.
Best of all, Kevin showed two quick scenes from Jersey Girl! (No story spoilers ahead I promise) Both are out of context of course. The great news is that Ben Affleck seems terrific. This is the Affleck of Chasing Amy and Dogma and if these two scenes were any indication the film should be terrific.
The look of the scenes were very different than something I’ve seen Kevin make before. I’m not sure what I could say to convey how they looked. The style seemed a bit more simple and thought out without drawing attention to itself. This is a good thing and very theatrical. For some reason the Look of Gus Van Sant’s Good Will Hunting came to mind. Don’t ask me why.
The only thing that made me nervous was Jennifer Lopez. I preface this by saying that I’m not really a big fan of her work (except for Out Of Sight). The scene they showed of her was out of context (had to restate this before any comment). Starts of very emotional and works into something very sweet. Personally, I thought she seemed too over the top at first and just not believable. I had to hand it again to Ben Affleck, he finds a way to ground the scene. It might go over better sandwiched in the real movie come February. Just an observation.
-Also of note………Silent Bob “In-Action” figures were sold out as of 3:00 Saturday at the View Askew booth. Sigh. Brian O’Halloran was there signing autographs and what a nice guy. He’d actually get up and come around the table each time to take photographs with fans. Very very cool.
Kevin, if you’re out there…….thanks for the great show! It sure was the highlight of the convention by a long shot!
