It's his short stories that freak me.

The novels I can usually just read and be OK with, but every once in a while, one of the short stories flip me out. The Mist was one. Jerusalem's Lot, too, though I can't remember WHAT about that one scared me. I think it had something to do with the fact that I read it just before I went to bed. You Know They've Got A Hell Of A Band was fantastically freaky. I dunno, maybe the length of the novels takes some of the scare out of them for me; the amount of scare he packs into a short story can really get to me.
