How come AVI files hates my 'puter?

Everytime I try to play AVI file my computer goes blue, says something about memory and then dies! Whats that about. I have window XP with 256 memory and YES I have divx. It's a sony viao laptop, which supposedly made for media.

What should I do? I really wanna watch old Turtles episodes!
